    • @adamdavey1

      Rock your hips forward so you lessen the curve in your lower back. The tail bone is basically where a tail would be if we had one, imagine tucking that tail between your legs using your hips.

    I started BJJ at 50. I was working out and could bench 285 at 5'9, 150 lbs (185 at the time). The first 15 minutes of BJJ a little girl could have killed me because my cardio was non existent. Three years later I was brawling with 25 year olds. Open mouth, deep breathing was good for me and always trying to keep a bit hyper ventilated. Three years later I could go forever without getting tired! That's what you need to roll with younger, stronger guys. Cardio, Cardio, Cardio and two on one!. Legs as arms! At 65 and getting ready to start BJJ again for brain blood flow (and a ton of fun) I'm thinking I just need 10 hours a week of medium to heavy exercise! Oh, and what's all this about leg locks? What are those?

    I've been having a hell of a time escaping the Josh Barnett soul stealer style of headlock. It's the go-to for one of the bigger guys in our club and he's gotten really good at it. Any tips on escaping that version?

      don't get put in it

    • @jodybond
      @jodybond 19 днів тому

      @@rollinOnCode the problem with that approach is that offensive quality suffers because attackers are never really getting good pushback. Better defense drives better offense. And vice versa.

    • @rollinOnCode
      @rollinOnCode 19 днів тому

      @@jodybond check out priit mihkelson defensive postures- they provide a few last ditch efforts and postures you may explore if someone goes head and arm kesa gatame. But understand that this is a dominant position you really don't want to be in just like you don't want to be stuck in triangle nor belly down rear mount

    • @jodybond
      @jodybond 19 днів тому

      @@rollinOnCode funnily enough, I just explored some of these issues with Priit at a seminar a few weeks ago. He's been a big inspiration in my game. Hawking turning away from the attacker helps prevent your diaphragm from being compressed in the soul stealer. So you can breathe, at least. But you essentially have to outlast your partner and wait for them to give up on the position. That said, I've been looking to get feedback from as many sources as possible. I've tried the knee bracing Gordon Ryan suggests, but haven't had much success with it.

    there are no pros and cons to anything in life. The pro is not making mistakes and being effective, the cons are making mistakes, no using situational awareness, procrastinating, and blundering. Do not seek to attach your blunders to any existing style.

    sorry for poor translation, and i might even stilll be wrong... but i understand this as if you do end up on bottom, the priority should be getting back on top rather than prioritizing keeping opponent pinned so they can't do anything on top?

    i wouldn't say that cross arm defense is good when someone is on your back - it leaves underhooks exposed and they can go dagestani handcuff on you. it should not be anywhere close to the first or primary line of defense as there are so many better and more imperative layers
